Dry Stone Walling Course

Dry Stone Walling is often referred to as 'A Living Art,' Wiston Lodge is offering a unique course, led by Advanced Dry Stone Waller, Richard Love. this is an excellent opportunity to acquire a new skill in a relaxed and stunning setting. Stone walling can be beneficial for farmers, landscape gardeners, or those eager to pursue a DSWA qualification.

 

Details for the Dry-Stone Wall Weekend

Dates: October 18th to 20th.

Arrivals: Please arrive by 5 pm for a prepared meal. Notify us in advance if you will be arriving late.

Activities: Richard will provide initial guidance, but the majority of the weekend will involve hands-on learning. Participants will physically construct a wall in a local farmer's field.

Location: Wiston Lodge, Millrig Road, Wiston, Biggar, MLI2 6HT.

Group Instructor: Richard Love, Dry Stone Walling Association Advanced Tutor.

Group Size: 8 participants.

Requirements: Steel toe-capped or sturdy boots, gardening gloves, wet weather gear (all can be provided).

Accommodation: Shared cabins with bunk-style rooms (2 people per room).

Meals:

Friday: Evening meal provided or group cooking.

Saturday & Sunday: Breakfast and lunch provided.

Saturday: Evening meal group cooking.

Please inform us of any food allergies and bring your own food for shared meals

 

Cooking Together: Participants are encouraged to prepare and share meals, fostering a sense of community.

Volunteers can choose to assist with preparation, cooking, or clean-up duties. The food arrangements and schedule will be determined closer to the event date, adding to the fun and variety of menu choices. An outdoor cob pizza oven is available for Saturday evening meals.

 

Evening Gatherings: Each night, we will gather around the fire to share stories, experiences, and reflect on the day's lessons. Participants may bring alcohol, but it's advisable to be mindful of the busy and physical days ahead.
